Silu or Shilu is the first Newari (Nepal Bhasa) film ever made. The movie was released on November of 1987.
“Silu” is a celebrated Newari story which was made into the movie. The story is about an obstinate woman who insists on accompanying her husband to Gosaikund although there is a taboo against it.

Sindoor was another movie produced by the government of Nepal under Royal Nepal Film Corporation. The movie was released in 1980. The movie was directed by Prakash Thapa.
Sindoor was a drama about a young woman (acted by Meenakshi Rana) seeking her own way in life. The woman’s fight against constricting traditions and of course romantic liaison with touches of comedy helped it to be a successful movie at that time.
Another government of Nepal release Jeevan Rekha was released in 1980s. Out of 12 movies made under the banner of Royal Nepal Film Corporation, Jiwan Rekha was one of the successful movies along with Sindur and Badlido Aakash.
